Thank you, Calgary-Shaw

April 17, 2019

Today, as our province begins a new chapter with a United Conservative Party government, I want to sincerely thank you - the people of Calgary-Shaw - for putting your faith and trust in me to represent you as your Member of the Legislative Assembly.

I also want to thank the dozens of volunteers who gave their time and effort to my campaign, and to campaigns all across Alberta. A special thank you to my amazing team who ran a respectful, honest and efficient campaign. To all the people who made the Shandro-Kenney-Schulz office a fun and welcoming place to be, we could not have done this without you!

When I first chose to seek elected office under the UCP banner eleven months ago, I hoped that I could represent a new generation of conservatives and bring the views of working families to the table. However, it was not my choice alone. It was a choice made in full partnership with my husband, Cole – and a choice made in careful consideration of the lives of our children, William and Lauren.

My husband and I came to Calgary to build a life for our family in a city where hard work and equality of opportunity mean everyone has a chance to succeed. There is no question that Alberta is a special place – a place defined by optimism, energy and an entrepreneurial spirit that has made this province a leader in Canada for generations.

In the past four years, however, we saw a provincial government that eroded that confidence and undermined the can-do attitude that defines Alberta. With policies that made it harder for businesses to thrive, harder for families to get ahead; policies that punished success, robbed our energy sector of its competitiveness and saddled our children with crippling debt.

That changes today.

Albertans now have a government committed to economic growth, job creation, fair taxation, support for our energy sector, investment in critical public services and responsible management of our province’s finances.

I am proud to serve alongside Premier Jason Kenney – a leader whose deep and enduring commitment to public service is unrivalled; a leader who has worked tirelessly to not only unite our party, but unite Albertans in the belief that a strong, fiscally conservative government can lead Alberta out of its current economic challenges, while being compassionate and putting people and families first.

I promise the people of Calgary-Shaw that I will listen to your views, answer your questions, and take your voice and your concerns to the seat of our provincial government. I will be respectful in our disagreements, and I will serve you with integrity and openness always – I look forward to getting to know you better and building meaningful relationships with you in the months ahead.

Your new United Conservative Party government is ready to stand up for all Albertans, and lead with a renewed sense of optimism and hope and start moving Alberta back towards its rightful place as a leader in our confederation. Today we start building a bolder, brighter future for your children and mine.

Thank you, Alberta.

Let’s get to work.
